Welcome to Switzerland! (sponsored by IOM)

Enjoy this video. It's the result of a programme against illegal immigration in Switzerland developed by the Swiss Federal Office for Migration and produced and directed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The aim of the video is to "give a more balanced view of irregular migration networks," IOM spokesman Jean-Philippe Chauzy told AFP news agency.

"We have to show to those people what kind of consequences will follow from their decision", declared Eduard Gnesa (55), director of the Swiss Immigration Office (BFM).

The aim of the campaign is to scare and discourage potential immigrants from Nigeria to try to enter Switzerland. The video was shown on Nigerian TV during the break between 1st and 2nd time of the football match Switzerland-Nigeria. It will be most probably aired in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well. Similar video were recently produced by Spain and by the European Union.

Switzerland has one of the most restrictive legislations on immigration. For instance, "communities vote on whether an immigrant becomes a Swiss citizen; being born in Switzerland brings no right to citizenship; (…); new laws cut welfare payments to those asylum seekers whose applications are rejected, and restrict applications from those unable to produce identity documents" (BBC, Have your say).

Maybe, instead of investing 250.000 euros (Switzerland + European Union) for the campaign, perhaps it would be enough to show in Nigeria the Blocher's SVP's poster developed for the last political elections ("Sicherheit schaffen" means "to create security".)
