The work of Saputnik is based on a simple philosophy. We would like to be a kind of “artisans” of information and video production, not driven by the rules of the entertainment industry and of the mainstreaming mass media. There are plenty of human rights issues and emergencies that are not considered worth of being analyzed and broadcast.

• Research: the basis of our work is research. Before deciding to produce a documentary, we analyze carefully the environment, all possible aspects that should be included in the movie, the different positions and ideas involved, the complex linkage between history and present situation. To same extent, we try to work as a kind of research institutions dealing with human rights. However the final product of our work has a visual shape rather than a written text. Indeed, we are strongly convinced of the power of visual language for delivering messages that ask for urgent attention.
• Indipendence: Saputnik is an apolitical and indipendent documentaries producer. It does not mean that we do not have our own political ideas and attitudes, but we try to keep them as much as possible out of our work. Indipendence is a must for us. During the production phase, our attempt is to keep the necessarry distance from the people that we interview and meet, and from the places that we visit, in order to present to the viewers the fairest product possible. In this way, we aim not only to produce fair information, but as well to stimulate the active thinking of the audience.
• Control of informations and sources: during the research, pre-production and editing phases we carefully verify our sources and elaborate the informations that we get. We are giving high importance to the interviews as a way to tell real-life stories, beiing aware of the risk of manipulation and trying always to give to the viewers the fairest possible landscape of the analyzed environment.
• Quality: as video and communication “artisans”, our goal is to successfully convey informations and, at the same time, to fulfil the highest technical and artistic criteria in the video production.
